From the Heart of Jersey City:
Drum and a Tantrum
Emerging from Jersey City’s vibrant music scene, Drum and a Tantrum weaves together psych-tinged indie/alt grooves with the raw charm of saloon-style piano rock, crafting a sound that is both eclectic and electric. Since their formation in 2013, the duo—Julian Altbuch (lead vocals and piano) and Russell de Moose (drums and multi-instrumentalist)—has been redefining the boundaries of dynamic music. Initially connecting through a shared music project, Julian and Russell bonded over their love for genre-blending soundscapes and emotionally charged performances.
With haunting vocals inspired by the theatricality of Meatloaf and melodies reminiscent of U2, Drum and a Tantrum paints vivid sonic landscapes. Their music pairs introspective lyrics with a delivery that’s as striking as it is unforgettable.
Since their debut album THE END, the band has released two EPs, a second full-length studio album, and several singles, including 2024’s Where You Are. Their third studio album, Album III, released in 2024, showcases their most ambitious work to date, blending expansive soundscapes with raw, introspective storytelling.
Beyond their studio work, the duo won Best Sound for their original score in the horror short Let’s Play Dead Girl (2016). Their track Sad and Beautiful (from the Wildfire album) was featured in a trailer for Showtime’s City on a Hill (2019), further cementing their ability to create music that resonates across mediums.
Currently, Drum and a Tantrum is producing a live performance YouTube series, Live from the Hive, and building anticipation for their next creative endeavors. Known for their immense yet intimate sound, contemplative lyrics, and electrifying live shows, the band remains a dynamic force, continuously evolving and pushing the boundaries of their artistry.
